Night Sky Photography Workshop

Description

Learn how to take beautiful photographs of the night sky! This workshop will cover how to shoot photos of night skies including the stars, the Milky Way and the Northern Lights. There’s nothing worse than seeing something beautiful in the night only to spend all your time trying to figure out how to use your camera that you miss it.

This is a four-hour in-class workshop, plus an optional three-hour practice session (weather permitting), that will teach you how to shoot starry night skies. I will walk you through my process of finding a suitable location, identifying ideal conditions, adjusting camera settings, and applying specific camera techniques in the dark. I’ll also reveal processing techniques to bring night photos to life through editing software like Lightroom and Photoshop. Throughout the workshop, I’ll include personal tips and tricks learned over years of practice.

In-Class Workshop

  • Date: TBA
  • Time: TBA
  • Location: Vancouver, BC

Optional Practice Session (Weather-Dependent)

  • Date: Either night of Friday, November 2nd or Saturday, November 3rd
  • Time: 9pm-midnight
  • Location: Shoot location TBA
  • Note: For this practice session, I will be available to answer students’ questions and provide feedback on their images. I will not be shooting much – perhaps only snaps of the students and a handful of reference images in followup discussions. Student learning is the priority 🙂
  • Note: Please also keep in mind that I won’t have control over whether specific night phenomena (shooting stars, aurora) will be visible on the night we shoot. It is a practice session to work on our techniques so that when we do encounter these things we are ready.
